![]() ![]() Snow is similarly no match for these beasts. The way the boots plunge into water without leaking would impress Captain Nemo. They are showing unclean unfinished lines so that normal people will go "oh look see it's handmade" where they are actually just being lazy.Bean boots famously sell out every year and you can’t talk about why they’re in such high demand without singing their praises. It's like a mental marketing scheme targeted to those who are not familiar with clothing construction. I know that they are handmade boots, so of course there is going to be some level non machine-precise cuts and manufacturing, but I almost feel like they are creating these sloppy on purpose to almost exaggerate that they are handmade. Every single pair of boots in that store is completely different from other pairs in the same line. And then to end it the edges of the leather gets frayed easily because they leave it untreated. I even saw some that had markings on them from where the cut line was drawn in the leather stencil, but they had completely missed the line therefore revealing their inaccuracy. I went to my local LL Bean store a few weeks ago and was looking at all of their different options, and it was consistent through all types. The way they cut the leather is so sloppy. They seem to be physically assembled well, but they are finished horribly. ![]() Unpopular opinion, but I don't like the build quality of Bean Boots (at least the new ones). I think a pair of each of those and you’d be just fine for just about any conditions I’ve gone through 2 pair of those but the first ones lasted about 10 years and I destroyed those things lol. I think I’m correct on the name but it’s something like that. If I know I might really get in some nasty shit or if I need to be certain I’m waterproof, I have a pair of solomon gtx quest hiking boots that are just fantastic. I wear them to work, the bars, I’ve even cleaned them up and worn them to nice events a couple times lol. But in my opinion thorogoods are the best value for price/quality. In my line of work I go through a lot of boots every 2 years. Plus they’re only about $200 which is very fair for that kind of boot. You can waterproof them and they break in to be the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. I absolutely love thorogood boots as an every day boot. I couldn’t get them tight enough for the life of me. In my experience they’re terrible for traction and your foot slips around inside if you’re actually working because they’re made to wear somewhat loose. I've definitely gotten my $140 worth by now. I think my favorite part about them is when I bought them, I got a hand signed card with the name of the person who made my Bean Boots in Maine in the box. I love how sturdy and dependable they are and once they get resoled I expect them to last for at least another 7 years, probably 10. ![]() They're the only shoes/boots I brought with me for the week too. We're here for the week to petsit and I just wore them this morning to chase my dogs around the yard and play with them and they're super comfy to wear even running for a bit. Their yard is a mud pit every spring and fall. They're perfect for when we visit my boyfriend's parents house in rural NH too. I don't drive so I walk all over with them (commuting to work daily pre covid and everything else) and they've held up super well. But I pretty much wear them exclusively from November to April. And the soles are worn down because I drag my feet a lot when I walk. I do need the soles replaced on mine at some point soon (I've been saying that for the past 3 winters) but they're still in totally great condition besides the soles! Only thing I've done in terms of care is replace the laces once. Clothingīoston native here that has worn them every fall, winter and spring for the past 7 years.
